ASHCROFT, Albert (John) Decem...

ASHCROFT, Albert (John) December 14, 1925 - July 9, 2017 Born December 14, 1925, in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England, John died peacefully in his sleep on July 9, 2017, in Oakville, Ontario, following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his greatest pride, his family: his wife of 67 years, Pamela, and his three loving daughters, Clair, Madeleine, and Holly, along with their families, as well as his sister, Marie. As a sergeant in World War II, John served in the Black Watch and the Argyle and Southerland Highlanders in North Africa, Italy, Austria, and Germany. While on leave in December 1949, he married Pamela in a British Registry Office above a bicycle shop. After returning to England, where John completed his education in engineering, the family came to Canada when John accepted a position as a designer draftsman in Montreal. He enjoyed pursuing new engineering fields, became a member of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute, and worked on the design of the Canada Arm. Happy times and loyal friends in Ottawa, Cape Cod, and Oakville followed, especially around church and bee keeping. A steadfast Englishman, his quiet kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, at St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Canadarm and Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
