ALLEN, Douglas Gordon- Passed...

ALLEN, Douglas Gordon- Passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton, at the age of 90. Douglas was born in Brandon, Manitoba on March 2, 1927. He went on to graduate from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Electrical Engineering which led to a 33 year career with IBM Canada Ltd. in Manufacturing Management; with 25 years as a third level manager before retiring in 1983. His long career with IBM at one point, afforded Douglas the opportunity to live overseas in Japan for 2 years on an international assignment. In between graduation and the start of his career, Douglas married his beloved wife, Mabel (nee Macfarlane) and together had their daughter, Susan Burgess (John) of Collingwood and two sons; Brian (Patricia) of Sutton West and Glenn (Tina) of Port Perry. Over the years, Douglas and Mabel saw many moves; residing in Toronto, Willowdale, and rural Claremont before finally building their dream home on a sprawling property just outside of Port Perry. Douglas was the beloved Grandfather of Catherine, Samantha and the late Carl Maxim Allen. He also leaves behind his sisters; Lois Boyan of Hamilton and Norma Woods of Kitchener and will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews; Betty, Alan, Bruce, Janice and Nancy. Fondly remembered by Krista and Mark Burgess. Douglas' family wishes to thank his neighbours; Gerry, Marlene, David and Ray Whitfield for their friendship and help over the years as well as Melanie, Bambi and the many others that provided him with homecare thus enabling Douglas to stay in his home almost until the end of his life. Finally, a special "shout out" to the remarkable staff at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton, for all their love and support over the past year. A Celebration of Douglas' Life will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the LOW AND LOW FUNERAL HOME, 1763 Reach St., Port Perry (905-985-7331) at 1p.m. with visitation for one hour prior.
